L&T Commissions First Indigenous Electrolyser in Gujarat for Clean Energy

The electrolyser, boasting a rated power capacity of 1 MW (expandable to 2 MW), can produce 200 Nm3/Hr of hydrogen.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has marked a significant milestone in the clean energy sector with the commissioning of its first domestically manufactured electrolyser at the Green Hydrogen Plant located at the A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.

The electrolyser, boasting a rated power capacity of 1 MW (expandable to 2 MW), has the capability to produce 200 Nm3/Hr of hydrogen. It is outfitted with two stacks and an Electrolyser Processing Unit (EPU) ML-400, manufactured and assembled domestically in adherence to the latest international standards, offering remarkable flexibility and thermal stability. In the coming weeks, the electrolyser will undergo rigorous testing to optimize its performance, paving the way for full-scale manufacturing of electrolysers.

L&T Electrolysers Limited, a newly established entity of L&T, is dedicated to manufacturing pressurized alkaline electrolysers utilizing technology from McPhy Energy, France. The company has spearheaded the entire value chain from engineering to manufacturing in collaboration with Indian vendors and suppliers, setting a benchmark for the 'Make in India' initiative.

Leveraging its upcoming giga-scale facility in Hazira, L&T Electrolysers aims to meet the increasing demand for green hydrogen, emphasizing product localization through an enhanced local supply chain and automation for cost competitiveness.

Subramanian Sarma, Whole-time Director & Senior EVP (Energy) at L&T, stated, "The indigenously manufactured electrolyser marks a transformative leap towards clean energy, positioning us to lead not only in the domestic market but also globally. This advancement significantly bolsters our offerings across the value chain, showcasing L&T as a global force in the clean energy space."

L&T Electrolysers has been allocated a significant 300 MW/annum capacity under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched by the Government of India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and implemented by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
