LONGi Solar has set a world record for the efficiency of monocrystalline silicon solar cells at its Wuhu base in Anhui Province. The company announced that its Hybrid Interdigitated-Back-Contact (HIBC) crystalline silicon solar cell has achieved an impressive 27.81 percent photoelectric conversion efficiency.

This breakthrough, certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany, marks a new milestone in the development of monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic technology. This achievement builds on previous milestones set by LONGi, which first set the record at 26.81 percent in November 2022, and then raised it to 27.3 percent in May 2024.

The company has since surpassed several incremental thresholds,reaching 27.4 percent, 27.52 percent, and 27.63 percent, before finally hitting 27.81 percent. The HIBC cell, developed by LONGi's Central Research Institute, achieved this breakthrough through innovations in both optical management and carrier transport efficiency. This dual breakthrough not only advances the power density of photovoltaic modules but also opens new possibilities for improving solar cell performance.
