Log 9 Spill Containment Pvt. Ltd has announced that it launched its maiden production facility in Addl. Patalganga, Raigad Distt., Navi Mumbai. Located within the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Industrial Area premises, this is the largest commercial factory in India which has been set up exclusively for the production of graphene-based clean-tech products.

The new facility will enable the company to scale up production of its innovative range of products aimed at controlling spills of all forms (off-shore and on-shore spills, oil spills, chemical spills, etc.); the company’s product line branded under the name ‘Sorbene’, consists of Sorbene pads, Sorbene socks, Sorbene pillows, and Sorbene spill kits, and will provide sustainable, economical solutions for stakeholders to deal with the contingencies arising out of various types of spills. Notably, these graphene-based products have been scientifically proven to absorb oil, petrochemicals, and other hydrocarbon-based liquids upto five times more effectively in comparison to various traditional polypropylene-based products in the market.

Speaking at the inauguration event of their new facility, Dhananjay Sharma, CEO, Log 9 Spill Containment said, “It is a momentous occasion for us at Log 9 Spill, as we officially kick-off our own production centre here in Navi Mumbai, with the objective to optimize production capabilities, and therein establish a rock-solid standing in the spill clean-up domain in local and global markets over the long-term. It gives me immense pride to announce that our infrastructure facility is the first-of-its-kind as well as the largest production hub for graphene-based products in the entire country. In the initial phase, we will have around 45 people (including the management team) working at this facility, and we look forward to producing approximately 60,000 units of our patented products like Sorbene pads, socks, and pillows every month. The production volume and manpower will rise as and when we scale up over the next few years. While this facility will become the main production centre for our current product portfolio, Our R&D center in Bangalore will continue to innovate new products based on graphene and add to our product line.”

Over the last few months, Log 9 Spill Containment has consolidated its presence in the domestic and international markets by selling its sorbent pads and other products to a number of petrochemical refineries, as well as marine clean-up and environmental protection stakeholders. Since the company is already supplying its products in South East Asia, their next goal is position themselves as a leading supplier of spill clean-up products in this geographical territory, following which they would expand and reach out to the Middle East, and then the American and European markets.

The inauguration ceremony held recently at the new production facility of Log 9 Spill kicked off with the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, followed by Ganesh Puja on the industrial site to mark the auspicious occasion. The event was attended by the company’s employees and management team, its vendors, and members from some neighbouring companies, as well as the company’s investor Mr. Renjit Shinto and Mr. Omkar Ghaisas.

Commenting on the USP of the company’s products, Akshay Singhal, Founder, Log 9 Materials said, “Log 9 Spill’s Sorbene products can absorb oil up to 86 times its own weight and are reusable 7-8 times. These pads are not only lightweight and flexible, but also there is negligible residue left after incineration, so these can be folded and re-used as wipes. All of this can be achieved because of the wonder material ‘graphene’ present in the products, which offer a much higher surface area leading to higher absorbance of oil and chemicals, almost upto 4 times as compared to other brands. Further, during each life cycle, ‘Sorbene’ products reduce carbon emission to the atmosphere by at least 50% when compared to other existing pads available in the market so far.”
