LeafyBus Partners with AMU to Accelerate Electric Mobility

The electric buses, which will be financed by AMU, will initially run on high-traffic routes, including the popular Delhi-Dehradun corridor.

LeafyBus has partnered with non-banking finance company AMU to launch a fleet of 10 electric buses for inter-city operations.

The electric buses, which will be financed by AMU, will initially run on high-traffic routes, including the popular Delhi-Dehradun corridor. 

The buses are equipped with safety features, such as CCTV surveillance, real-time tracking, and a dedicated ‘Bus Buddy’ for onboard assistance. The buses also have Driver Monitoring Systems and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to maintain safety standards, according to LeafyBus. 

“At LeafyBus, we aim to make electric travel the norm across India. Partnering with AMU helps us get closer to this goal by making it easier for people to travel between cities in an eco-friendly way,” stated Rohan Dewan, Founder and CEO, LeafyBus. 

“By empowering LeafyBus to expand their fleet, we are enabling cleaner transport solutions that positively impact both the environment and the future of mobility, " said Nehal Gupta, Founder and Managing Director of AMU. 

Recently, LeafyBus also partnered with JBM Electric Vehicles to procure 200 electric buses, with the first 50 expected to be introduced within the next year.

The popularity of electric buses in India is on the rise as the country strives to reduce air pollution and reliance on fossil fuels. Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are adopting electric buses to improve public transportation and combat severe urban pollution.

The Indian government's push for sustainable mobility, through initiatives like the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, has accelerated this shift.

Several state transport corporations are placing large orders for electric buses, while companies like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland are ramping up production to meet growing demand. Electric buses, which offer quieter and cleaner operations, also help cities lower their carbon footprints.

As battery technology improves and charging infrastructure expands, the transition to electric buses is expected to further speed up, driving India closer to its climate and energy goals.
