Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, and also health minister, stated that only 25 percent of the medical university’s terrace surface area has been used for solar panels, comprising the latest 1-MW plant and an earlier 1.3-MW plant.
The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) which has 75 percent of its rooftop surface area vacant, will now utilise it to install solar plants.
He urged Arvind Kumar Sharma, Energy Minister of Uttar Pradesh, to use the rest 75 percent of the terrace area, as with the hostel area, for establishing solar panels to produce clean energy and minimise the university’s electricity bill.
The Deputy CM also advised a change in the land use classification of the university from commercial to domestic to further minimise the electricity bill burden.
He focussed that the health department works for the welfare of the public by giving free treatment in district hospitals and availing minimal-cost treatment at KGMU and SGPGIMS.
However, as commercial buildings, they are subject to commercial bills. He made a request to look out for methods to reclassify the construction to minimise the present electricity bill of INR 5 crore per month at KGMU, giving importance.
The minister stated, “Campus cleanliness is remarkable. It should be preserved and biomedical waste disposal should also be improved.”
