Kerala Government Initiates to Add 60 E Buses to Fleet in Smart City Initiative
With this latest inclusion, the overall count of E buses all over the state will achieve 163, thereby contributing to the capital’s transformation into a green city.

The Kerala government has initiated an additional fleet of 60 E buses to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) under the continuing Smart City initiative.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared the new EV fleet during an event organised in the capital city and handed them over to the Transport Minister, Antony Raju.
Vijayan announced that an additional 53 buses of the same type will soon be added to the fleet. Currently, there are 50 electric buses working in the state capital.
With this latest inclusion, the overall count of E buses all over the state will achieve 163, thereby contributing to the capital’s transformation into a green city.
Vijayan underlined that the average transportation speed in the state is 40 percent below the national average.
He also revealed that once the remaining buses are amalgamated into the KSRTC fleet, the city’s transportation services will be totally electric and environmentally friendly.
M B Rajesh, the Minister of the Local Self-Government Department (LSGD), announced that the overall cost of the Thiruvananthapuram Smart City project accounts for INR 1,135 crore. He mentioned that the central government contributes INR 500 crore, whereas the city corporation provides INR 135 crore.
