Juniper Green Energy, a Gurgaon-based renewable energy company, has secured a significant agreement with First Solar, Inc. to procure and deploy 1 GW of advanced Series 7 FT1 cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules for its upcoming projects across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

As per the statement, the modules will be supplied over a two-year period, marking one of India’s largest agreements for domestically produced solar modules. The agreement is a major step towards reducing India’s dependence on China, as the modules, manufactured at First Solar’s Chennai plant, are not reliant on China’s crystalline silicon supply chains.

The Series 7 FT1 modules are specifically designed to cater to India’s ground-mount PV market, with features that optimise balance of system (BOS) costs and reduce the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) for solar projects in the country. The modules are ALMM enlisted, DCR eligible, and BIS compliant, making them suitable for the Indian market and ensuring that Juniper Green Energy’s projects comply with local regulations.

Naresh Mansukhani, CEO of Juniper Green Energy, said, "We’re excited to partner with First Solar, as this collaboration is expected to ensure a reliable supply of modules for a vital segment of our development pipeline. Sourcing our modules from First Solar enhances our domestic content strategy while aligning with a trusted partner offering a highly competitive product.”

Georges Antoun, Chief Commercial Officer of First Solar, “We are pleased that Juniper Green has selected American solar technology that is made in India, for India, to power its project portfolio. We value their trust in our ability to deliver a high-quality, high-performance product that helps diversify and secure their supply chains.”
