Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) has announced the results of its auction to set up 1,000 MW/2,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) under tariff-based global competitive bidding. JSW Neo Energy and Reliance Power have emerged as winners.

Both the companies have been awarded an equal capacity of 500 MW/1000 MWh. While JSW Neo Energy quoted a tariff of INR 381,000/MW per month, Reliance Power quoted INR 381,999/MW per month.

The tender was floated in June this year. As per the tender guidelines, the selected bidder will be responsible for establishing the BESS, which includes identifying land, installation, and obtaining necessary approvals. The system should be capable of being charged from any energy source, including conventional sources, and must meet the defined performance criteria.
