JinkoSolar, a solar module manufacturers, has inked a landmark deal to supply 1.75 GW of its high-efficiency N-type TOPCon bifacial modules for two large-scale photovoltaic projects in Saudi Arabia.
The AHK2 (500 MW) and MAS (1,250 MW) projects are being jointly developed by EDF Renewables and SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., with EPC services led by a PowerChina Guizhou Engineering Co.-headed consortium.
This marks the second major collaboration between JinkoSolar and EDF Renewables, following the 1.8 GW Al Ajban PV3 project in Abu Dhabi signed last year.
The two Saudi Arabian projects are strategically located in the desert provinces of Medina and Hail—areas known for extreme temperatures, sandstorms, and large daily temperature fluctuations. AHK2 will be situated southeast of Al Henakiyah, while MAS will rise east of Dharghat.
Aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), the projects are part of the Kingdom's drive to diversify its energy mix and accelerate renewable deployment. JinkoSolar’s Tiger Neo N-type TOPCon modules were selected following a rigorous competitive process, recognized for their superior performance and reliability under harsh desert conditions.
The bifacial modules offer up to 85% bifaciality, a low temperature coefficient, strong resistance to UV radiation, wind, dust, and hail, and minimal power degradation. According to field data, the modules’ bifacial design alone can boost total energy yield by approximately 3.38 percent, particularly in high-reflectivity terrains.
Beyond clean energy generation, the projects are also expected to deliver ecological benefits. The shading provided by the modules may help lower surface temperatures and preserve soil moisture, contributing to potential vegetation growth and combating desertification in the region.
This significant deal underscores the growing footprint of Chinese clean energy companies in the Middle East and highlights the pivotal role of advanced solar technologies in enabling climate resilience and sustainable development in arid zones.
