Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra announced that Japan's Energy for a New Era (JERA) Co Inc, Japan’s power generation company is interested in looking out for investment and collaborative plans with the state government.
The main focus comprises green hydrogen, ammonia, renewable energy, and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Fadnavis addressed that Dr. Masafumi Mori, a special advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, prolonged the Japanese government’s assistance to the Versova-Virar Sea Link (VVSL), an important infrastructure project in Mumbai.
The VVSL is a planned 43-km eight-lane elevated road along Mumbai’s west coast that will begin from Versova in the western suburbs and terminate at Virar.
He further added, “Senior officials of the Maharashtra government made a presentation on the state’s green hydrogen policy. Maharashtra is the pioneer in introducing a revolutionary green hydrogen policy, which has captured the attention of numerous companies.”
He mentioned that JERA officials willingly want to collaborate and invest with the state government in areas such as green hydrogen, ammonia, renewable energy, and LNG. This is in line with JERA’s extendible target of attaining zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Through this venture highlighting the rising interest and partnership opportunities between Maharashtra and Japan’s energy entity will fulfill requirements in the RE sector.
JERA's outlay in India further supports Maharashtra's and ultimately the national aim to offset its emissions to net zero by 2070.
