ITI Limited, India's first PSU post-independence and a telecom manufacturing company, has received Letters of Intent (LoIs) worth INR 37.5 crores from the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) for the installation of Solar Street Light Systems.
The LoIs detail two projects awarded to ITI Limited’s Naini Unit. The first LoI is for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 2,800 solar street light systems, including a comprehensive maintenance contract (CMC) for five years and a remote monitoring system (RMS). This project, valued at INR 8.58 crore, will be executed under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Solar Street Light Yojana in DPRO Katihar.
The second LoI, also under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Solar Street Light Yojana, involves the installation of 9,440 solar street light systems. This project, valued at INR 28.94 crore, includes the same scope of work: design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, CMC for five years, and RMS.
Both projects will be supervised by BREDA and involve major components such as solar PV modules, solar batteries, LED luminaires, mounting structures, and the balance of the system (BOS).
Commenting on the partnership, Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, said, "ITI Limited is proud to partner with the Government of Bihar’s BREDA to help illuminate streets with sustainable solar energy. This project is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and creating vibrant rural environments. The project adds to the aesthetics there and provides cutting-edge lighting solutions for a greener tomorrow.”
“ITI Limited has acquired rich experience in successfully supplying and installing Solar Street Light Systems in Bihar since last year,” Rai added.
ITI Limited’s Naini Unit, already engaged in manufacturing solar panels capable of harnessing up to 400 W, has a yearly production capacity of 18 MW, translating to around 55,000 panels per year. With an enhanced capacity of 500 MW, the unit will start manufacturing approximately 15,00,000 panels annually.
