IPHE Focuses on Green Hydrogen Business Models and Infrastructure

The delegates elaborated on their national clean hydrogen strategies, emphasizing research and development initiatives related to hydrogen production, storage, and transportation.

The 41st Steering Committee Meeting of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE) convened at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan. 

Delegates from participating countries, including Austria, Chile, France, the European Commission, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, UAE, the UK, the US, Singapore, and South Korea, gathered to present country updates on research and development, key policy developments, and initiatives undertaken by their respective governments on hydrogen.

Throughout the proceedings, delegates elaborated on their national clean hydrogen strategies, emphasizing research and development initiatives related to hydrogen production, storage, and transportation. They also discussed the status of demand creation, infrastructure development, and the upskilling of the workforce necessary to support the hydrogen economy.

The committee engaged in in-depth discussions on various business models for hydrogen transportation, production, and storage, exploring possibilities for international collaborations and partnerships in finance, policy, regulations, and sustainable commercial and economic models.

Key topics deliberated upon included regulatory frameworks, methodologies for emission savings detection, the creation of dedicated hydrogen infrastructure and markets, the establishment of hydrogen banks, and the development of import-export corridors. Additionally, the importance of public awareness, ease of doing business, and the implementation of high-efficiency, low-cost approaches featured prominently in the discussions.

The committee also reviewed decisions and actions from the previous 40th Steering Committee Meeting, with a focus on promoting wider participation of the international community, including countries from the Global South, in the IPHE membership.

Looking ahead, it was unanimously agreed that the European Commission will host the 42nd Steering Committee Meeting during the European Hydrogen Week scheduled for November this year.

In concluding remarks, the Chair of the Committee urged all stakeholders to adopt bold measures to accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen across all sectors of the economy on a priority basis.
