Intersect Power LLC has announced the successful commissioning of a 500 MW solar farm, complemented by a cutting-edge battery energy storage system (BESS), in Riverside County, California.

The massive 679 MWp power-generating facility is poised to become a key player in the renewable energy sector, generating enough electricity to meet the annual power demands of over 207,000 homes. Notably, the solar plant is fortified by a 250 MW/1 GWh co-located storage, enhancing its efficiency and reliability.

Located across approximately 2,600 acres of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Oberon Solar + Storage site stands out as the inaugural project completed under BLM’s Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP).

The solar installation boasts technology, featuring First Solar modules, NX Horizon smart trackers from Nextracker, and American-made structural steel. The accompanying BESS, a critical component for consistent power supply, is constructed with Tesla batteries.

Financed through a combination of portfolio-level term debt, tax equity, and construction financing commitments, the project has already secured a roster of off-takers for its power, Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), and Resource Adequacy.

Prominent names among the buyers include Calpine Energy Solutions, Constellation, Ava Community Energy, Microsoft, and San Diego Community Power.
