Indore Targets 25K Rooftop Solar Installations in 3-Month Drive

In a pivotal meeting led by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, Indore unveiled an ambitious initiative to transition into a solar city within the next 11 months.

Dubey, addressing the press post-meeting, detailed the immediate goals, revealing that about 25 to 30 thousand rooftop solar systems will be installed in the next three months in the city.

Central to this vision is a commitment to equip all government buildings with solar systems, capitalizing on increased subsidies from the central government.

The Indore Municipal Corporation is already actively engaged in the first phase of the plan, with a focus on installing solar systems in all houses of 22 colonies spread across 22 zones.

The subsequent phase aims to scale up the efforts, covering 85 colonies in 85 wards, and ultimately creating fully solar-powered colonies.

A wide-reaching campaign is set to be launched to connect the existing 25,000 electricity consumers with the rooftop solar net meter scheme in the next three months, as outlined by West Discom MD Amit Tomar. Additionally, plans are underway to install solar panels on 1,400 government buildings throughout the city.

Corporation Commissioner Harshika Singh emphasized the incentivization of individuals contributing to the initiative. Those installing solar systems on their rooftops will enjoy a 6 percent rebate in fees for building maps on plots exceeding 1,500 sq. ft.

As Indore aspires to harness the power of solar energy, the city's ambitious targets underscore a dedicated commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly development.
