Indonesian state utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is looking for a USD 700 million investment to establish a 200 MW solar panel that will substitute diesel power generators in order to minimise carbon emissions.
The plan is part of its aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2060.
PLN has proposed to have 4.68 GW of solar panels established between 2021 and 2030.
Evy Haryadi, Director of Perusahaan Listrik Negara explained the 200 MW solar panel is the initial stage of a longer-term plan to substitute 1 GW of diesel power plants with solar power.
An alliance of nations has committed USD 20 billion of public and private financing to support Indonesia’s transition to cleaner energy under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
Head of Indonesia’s JETP Secretariat Edo Mahendra added, Indonesia targets to conclude a detailed plan for JETP fund allocation by August and expanding that PLN’s plan to shift from diesel power to renewables will be a pilot programme in JETP.
