IndianOil, under the leadership of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has achieved a historic milestone by commencing the production of India's first-ever Reference Gasoline and Diesel fuels.
These fuels are crucial for the calibration and testing of vehicles, and their indigenous development aligns with the vision of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' or self-reliant India.
At an inaugural event held in New Delhi, Minister Puri lauded IndianOil for this achievement, emphasising its significance in reducing India's dependence on imports and catapulting the nation's energy industry onto the global stage.
These Reference Gasoline and Diesel fuels will be used by automobile manufacturers and testing agencies such as ICAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology) and ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India).
Puri outlined that this milestone is a part of India's comprehensive four-pronged energy security strategy, including diversifying energy supplies, expanding exploration and production, harnessing alternative energy sources, transitioning to a gas-based economy, and promoting green hydrogen and electric vehicles (EVs). The reference fuels mark a significant step in this strategy and support India's vision to become an 'energy-independent' nation by 2047.
Reference fuels are essential for calibration and testing in the automotive sector, meeting more stringent specifications than commercial gasoline and diesel. India has traditionally depended on imports for these specialised fuels, and IndianOil's indigenous development will not only substitute imports but also provide cost-effective solutions with reduced lead times for vehicle manufacturers. Reference gasoline fuels will be available in various ethanol blends, while reference diesel fuel will be offered in B7 grade.
This achievement reinforces India's commitment to energy security and self-sufficiency, aligning with its broader goal of transitioning to a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.
