For the first time, India has established its own pavilion at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, the India Pavilion stands as one of the largest exhibits at the summit and was inaugurated by Secretary Bhupinder S. Bhalla.
The World Hydrogen Summit, renowned for its focus on the global green hydrogen ecosystem, anticipates hosting approximately 15,000 delegates from across the world. At this forum, India seizes the opportunity to present its strides in the field of Green Hydrogen, showcasing its advancements and initiatives.
Representing India's diverse stakeholders, the Indian delegation comprises nominees from various governmental bodies such as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, along with private sector companies.
India's foray into green hydrogen began with the launch of its National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023, with an outlay of INR 19,744 crores. Setting a bold target, India aims to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 MMT by the end of 2030.
Currently, the MNRE has already awarded tenders for the establishment of 412,000 tonnes of Green Hydrogen production capacity and 1,500 MW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity.
Moreover, India has formulated scheme guidelines to promote the utilization of Green Hydrogen in sectors such as steel, transport/mobility, and shipping. The Department of Science and Technology has also taken measures by initiating Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters, designed to stimulate innovation and bolster the Green Hydrogen ecosystem within India.
To streamline information dissemination and facilitate stakeholder engagement, a dedicated portal for the National Green Hydrogen Mission has been recently launched. This portal serves as a comprehensive repository for updates on the mission's progress and initiatives undertaken to foster the development of the green hydrogen ecosystem in India.
