India has 172 GW Renewable Energy Capacity and 129 MW Under Execution

The energy sector is significant in determining the future of India. The Ministry of Power & Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is operating simultaneously on a number of initiatives, comprising the transmission capacity.

Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Bhagwanth Khuba presided over the review meeting.

India has attained a renewable energy capacity of 172 GW and another 129 MW is in the pipeline.

The energy sector is significant in determining the future of India. The Ministry of Power & Ministry of New & Renewable Energy is operating simultaneously on a number of initiatives, comprising the transmission capacity.

The development of various programs, comprising the rooftop solar program and National Green Hydrogen Mission was acknowledged at the meeting.

Hence, the overall established capacity would be 301 GW, which releases around 200 GW capacity to be expanded in a bid to attain the aim of 500 GW capacity from non-fossil fuels.

It is working on expanding transmission capacity for evacuating 500 GW of power, enhancing the storage capacity through Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) and Battery Storage, market development for procurement of power through market-based instruments, and integrating the RE Plan with Resource Adequacy Plans.

The status of progress under the schemes/programmes including  Solar Parks Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Scheme, Rooftop Solar Programme, Green Energy Corridor, National Bioenergy Programme and National Green Hydrogen Mission was monitored descriptive in the meeting.

The states were further requested to expedite the implementation of all RE schemes in a time-bound manner to achieve the RE 2030 target.
