The 2nd Edition of India Energy Week (IEW) is set to unfold in Goa from February 6th to 9th, 2024, promising an impressive lineup of global participants and exciting developments. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, highlighted key features of the upcoming event in a media briefing.
Anticipated to be a landmark gathering, IEW 2024 is expected to host 17 Energy ministers from different countries, drawing more than 35,000 attendees and featuring over 900 exhibitors. Minister Puri revealed that six dedicated country pavilions from Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, the UK, and the USA will be showcased, emphasizing the international scope of the event.
A noteworthy addition to IEW 2024 is the special Make in India Pavilion, with over 300 exhibitors displaying innovative solutions spearheaded by Indian MSMEs in the energy sector. Minister Puri highlighted the unparalleled platform this provides for participants to showcase their capabilities to both domestic and international markets.
Compared to its inaugural edition, IEW 2024 has seen significant growth, with a 30 percent increase in exhibitors, a 25 percent expansion in the exhibition area, and a remarkable 46 percent surge in revenue from the exhibition. Minister Puri expressed enthusiasm for the event's success, especially given the one-year milestone of IEW.
Private sponsorship has seen an 81 percent increase in total revenue from private firms, with a 44 percent rise in the number of private sponsors, resulting in more than three times the private sponsorship revenue compared to the previous year.
Building on the success of the first edition, IEW'24 has extended its duration and increased the number of strategic sessions from 3 to 4 days. The forecasted program includes 46 strategic sessions and 46 technical sessions, more than double the technical sessions in IEW'23.
Technical sessions have expanded, with the number of submitted papers doubling from 1000 for IEW 2023 to 2000 for IEW 2024. Four new technical categories have been introduced, aligning with domestic priorities, including Shipping, logistics and Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Industrialization, Future Mobility, and Mining and Minerals.
The Minister also highlighted Avinya, an Energy startup challenge, which selected 5 startups from approximately 120 applications. The winners will receive mentorship opportunities from industry leaders and a chance to exhibit their cutting-edge solutions at India Energy Week'24.
Numerous side events are planned, covering themes such as Global South Cooperation, Carbon Capture and Utilisation, PM’s roundtable with Oil & Gas CEOs, and India-US investment roundtables, in line with G20 priorities. IEW'24 features an increased focus across the energy value chain, including sessions on Biofuels, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS).
Minister Puri emphasized the importance of biofuels and green hydrogen in the context of the country's economic growth. He highlighted the shift towards sustainable energy as the growing economy consumes more energy, aiming for India to become a 5 trillion economy by the end of the fiscal year 2025.
