Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has laid the foundation of a new association with Insurance company General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) on the evolution of energy-producing solar window technology.
A Memorandum of Understanding was inked between the IIT Roorkee Development Foundation (IITRDF) and the General Insurance Corporation of India.
IIT Roorkee Development Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation of IIT Roorkee founded on 12th May 2021.
The new solar window technology will be devised and produced by scientist Prof. Soumitra Satapathi, Department of Physics.
In this project, Prof Satapathi and his peer members will produce semi-transparent perovskite solar cells for developing integrated photovoltaics (BIPV).
This is marked as a Corporate Social Responsibility program of the General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re).
These semi-transparent perovskite solar windows will enable to equip and utilise electricity during the daytime and will minimise dependency on widely used electricity sources.
Eventually, this step will aid in reducing carbon footprint and bring about cost savings for residential households and businesses, resultantly providing a cleaner and sustainable energy future.
