The Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) is hosting the 10th edition of the Metering India Conference in Delhi, a biennial event that serves as a benchmark for innovation and collaboration in the energy metering industry.

The two day conference (21st-22nd Nov.) brings together over 500 delegates, including top industry leaders, policymakers, and experts, to discuss the latest advancements in energy metering. With the theme 'Sustainable and Consumer-Centric Utilities Towards Net Zero,' the event focussed on fostering knowledge sharing, networking, and business development in support of a sustainable energy future. It also highlighted the critical role of smart metering in promoting sustainability and consumer empowerment as the world moves towards a Net Zero future.

Srikant Nagulapalli, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Power, emphasised the transformative impact of initiatives such as the RDSS scheme and the rollout of 22.7 crore smart meters. He stated, “Smart metering is not just about efficiency—it’s about empowering consumers, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing financial viability. With a production capacity of 10 crore smart meters annually, India is poised to become a global hub for smart meter exports as we chart a sustainable path toward a Net Zero future.”

Sunil Singhvi, President of IEEMA, remarked on the strong participation at the conference, highlighting the strides made in the Indian power sector. He said, “India is poised to become the largest pre-payment system market globally. By focussing on system design, data security, and collaborative innovation, we can position India as a global leader in energy exports and renewable advancements.”

Jaideep Mukherjee, Chairman of IEEMA’s Meter Division, underscored the transformation underway in the Indian power sector. “Through decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization, we are supporting initiatives like the installation of 250 million smart meters, which are central to India’s sustainable energy future,” he added.

The conference featured five dedicated sessions addressing the challenges and solutions of smart metering, providing a platform for thought leadership and industry collaboration. Participants included utility companies, energy service providers, regulators, consultants, academic institutions, and representatives from the industrial, solar, and wind energy sectors.

With a legacy of driving innovation and collaboration, Metering India has become a key event in the power sector. The previous edition in 2022 saw over 550 participants from 170 organisations, including representatives from 80 utilities, PSUs, and government institutions.
