The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) declared that the energy utilisation at the airport and throughout its ecosystem is now totally powered by green energy.

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport will be able to minimise its carbon footprint by around 9,300 tons of carbon dioxide yearly.

The airport is spanned across 675 acres of land and caters as a natural carbon emissions sink, assimilating 240 tons of carbon dioxide from the environment yearly.

This has been completed in alliance with Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL).

According to GHIAL, the step will revolutionise the airport’s operation by tapping the power of green energy through an amalgamation of its own 10 MWp solar power plant and green energy supplied by TSSPDCL.

Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, stated, “Hyderabad Airport is now powered by 100 percent renewable energy. We have systematically worked on reducing our carbon footprint through the years by implementing various measures and will continue to do so.”

A statement issued by the GHIAL said that it is a Carbon Neutral Airport, having awarded Level 3+ 'Neutrality' Accreditation from the Airports Council International under its Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. The company’s functions have also yielded crucial energy savings of about 15.5 million units (MU).
