In a significant move, the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, unveiled the Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Start-Up Yojana Phase-II.

Aimed at the youth aged between 21 and 45, the initiative focuses on setting up solar power projects ranging from 100 kW to 500 kW capacity, providing not only clean energy solutions but also fostering self-employment opportunities and economic growth.

Under the scheme, eligible youth with land can generate a steady monthly income, ranging from INR 20,000 to INR 1 lakh, for 25 years based on the capacity of their solar power projects. The government offers a favorable financial structure, requiring only a 10 percent security deposit from beneficiaries, with 30 percent equity and 70 percent bank loan facilitation.

In a bid to further reduce carbon emissions, CM Sukhu, in his commitment to 'Green and Clean Himachal,' directed all government departments to refrain from purchasing diesel or petrol vehicles from January 2024. This decision aims to promote the widespread adoption of e-vehicles, showcasing the government's dedication to environmental preservation.

The Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has taken the lead by replacing its official vehicle fleet with e-vehicles, setting an example for other departments to follow suit. With 185 government e-vehicles and 2733 private electric vehicles registered in the state.

To support the transition to e-vehicles, the government is providing 50 percent subsidies on e-taxi permits under the INR 680 crore Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment start-up scheme.

Infrastructure development includes the establishment of 54 e-vehicle charging stations across the state and the designation of six highways as green corridors.

The state government is converting all diesel buses of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) into e-buses and manufacturing companies have been urged to consider the geographical conditions of Himachal while producing e-buses.

Plans are underway to introduce Type-1, 2, and 3 e-buses on long routes, aligning with the goal of making Himachal Pradesh a clean and green energy state by March 31, 2026.

This multifaceted approach highlights the state's commitment to sustainable development, economic empowerment, and environmental preservation.
