Hasa Energy, a prominent provider of energy efficiency and decarbonisation solutions, has entered into Oman’s inaugural Energy Services Performance Contract (ESCO) with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MOHUP).

This landmark agreement, finalised during the Green Build Oman 2024 Conference, represents a major step in Oman’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The project is set to reduce energy consumption across MOHUP buildings by an impressive 39 percent within a six-year payback period.

The agreement was signed by Riyab Salim Moosa al Mayahi, General Director of Social Housing and Projects at MOHUP, and Eng. Muatasam al Aulaqi, Chairman of Hasa Energy, underscoring the collaborative approach to achieving national sustainability goals.

The initiative aligns closely with Oman’s Vision 2040, which focuses on enhancing sustainability through energy efficiency retrofits, renewable energy integration, and smart building technologies. Hasa Energy’s approach is rooted in a comprehensive strategy that begins with energy conservation, advances to efficiency optimization, and culminates in the adoption of renewable energy solutions. The project aims not only to reduce energy consumption but also to lower carbon emissions significantly, contributing to Oman’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

As part of the project, Hasa Energy is leveraging cutting-edge technologies to modernise infrastructure and improve energy performance. Advanced cooling systems are being installed to replace older, less efficient models, while IoT-based solutions and machine learning technologies are being deployed for predictive maintenance and operational efficiency.

Energy monitoring systems will ensure precise tracking of consumption and carbon reductions, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the project’s six-year duration. These measures are designed to optimise energy use, reduce operational costs, and enhance overall building performance.

The contract is also expected to drive economic and social benefits, supporting local job creation and fostering a green economy in Oman. By partnering with global technology leaders and investing in local talent, Hasa Energy aims to overcome barriers in the energy transition and establish a scalable model for sustainability. This collaboration sets a precedent for future public-private partnerships, paving the way for similar initiatives across Oman and the wider GCC region.

Highlighting the broader context, Mustapha Aanzi, Managing Director of Hasa Energy, noted that global efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C require a tripling of renewable energy capacity and doubling the rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030. He emphasised that this project not only supports 'Oman’s Vision 2040' but also contributes to international climate goals. By integrating advanced technologies and innovative solutions, the ESCO project sets a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure development, positioning Oman as a leader in the Middle East’s transition to a sustainable future.

This pioneering partnership between Hasa Energy and MOHUP marks a significant advancement in Oman’s energy efficiency landscape, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to achieving its long-term environmental and economic goals.

Through its innovative approach and alignment with global and national sustainability frameworks, the project represents a transformative step toward building a greener, more sustainable future for Oman.
