The remote region of Gurez in Jammu and Kashmir is now connected to the national electricity grid, breaking free from decades of dependence on Diesel Generator (DG) sets.

This landmark development signals a transformative journey for Gurez, which historically faced severe winters and challenging terrain, hindering access to essential services like a reliable power supply.

The integration into the national grid marks a significant infrastructure enhancement for the isolated area, promising improved quality of life for residents and potential economic growth through enhanced access to resources.

The successful charging of the 33 kV Line and RSTN Dawar has now brought grid connectivity to Gurez, eliminating its reliance on DG sets. This development is especially noteworthy as Gurez was the only area in Kashmir dependent on DG sets for power.

Gurez, known for being cut off during heavy snowfall in winter, now holds the promise of a more comfortable and connected future with the newfound electricity grid connection.

The electrification of Gurez reflects the Indian government's commitment to developing and integrating remote areas into the broader economic and developmental landscape. Spearheaded by the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), this initiative is a crucial step in extending essential services to the farthest corners of the country.
