Greaves Electric Mobility has launched its all-electric scooter, Nexus under the Ampere electric two-wheeler brand.

The Nexus boasts a stylish design language with modern elements, a focus on functionality, and a 136 km certified range. The scooter is targeted at young buyers in the 30-39-year age bracket.

The scooter comes priced at INR 109,900, ex-showroom for the entry-level EX variant, and at INR 119,900, ex-showroom, for the higher ST trim with a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster.

According to K Vijaya Kumar, CEO and Executive Director, Greaves Electric Mobility, “At Greaves Electric Mobility, we strive to create smart and sustainable last-mile mobility solutions. Our electric two-wheeler brand Ampere is one of the predominant manufacturers and retailers of e-two-wheelers in India.”

The Ampere Nexus gets a large seat with an aluminum pillion grab handle, LED lamps all around and a 7-inch TFT display with in-built navigation support. The cluster gets an automotive-grade OSEK operating system that runs on Renesas platform. The company says the design of the Nexus is inspired by the ‘Arctic Tern’ bird emulating its characteristics of aerodynamics, agility, and robustness.

The scooter gets modular panels for ensuring ease of serviceability, and there are air vents in the front and rear panels to aid ventilation of the drivetrain. Uniquely, the Ampere Nexus boasts a hybrid die-cast and fabricated tubular swingarm to ensure a lightweight and rigid chassis that aids handling. The chassis is claimed to have utilised high-strength 590 MPa UTS steel that enables up to four-times stronger swingarm that houses the drivetrain.

The Ampere Nexus boasts an LFP chemistry battery with a certified range of 136km. The company says LFP is thermally more stable compared to NMC and offers 30 percent more serviceable life. The scooter offers a recharge time of under four hours. The 3-kWh lithium-ion battery powers a 4kW mid-drive motor that powers the rear wheel with a belt-drive system.

The Ampere Nexus also utilises a two-stage gear reduction system for optimising the power and torque delivered to the wheel and also ensures a low-noise operation of the powertrain. The company says the gear ratios can be modified to offer different speed applications with the Nexus.

Greaves Electric Mobility says it has created a modern platform with the Nexus that will enable it to introduce more products in the future. The company has applied for multiple patents, including that for the drivetrain swingarm 5 patents, as well as that for the functional louvers that aid aero-thermal management of the drivetrain.

The company will manufacture the Ampere Nexus at its Ranipet facility near Vellore, Tamil Nadu, where it has an installed capacity to produce 500,000 units annually, and could be expanded further to double the capacity.
