Government Mulls INR 50,000 Crore Rooftop Solar Push for 1 Crore Homes

In a significant development for the renewable energy sector, the government is considering a new policy that could pave the way for a massive expansion of rooftop solar installations across the country. This initiative is expected to benefit major power companies, including National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Tata Power, and Adani Power.

Sources close to the matter reveal that the government is contemplating a budget of around INR 50,000 crore for the Power Ministry for the implementation of this ambitious rooftop solar program. If approved, the initiative aims to install rooftop solar panels on a staggering 1 crore houses, marking a substantial leap towards sustainable and clean energy practices.

The move comes as part of the government's commitment to promoting green energy solutions and reducing the country's carbon footprint. Rooftop solar installations not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also empower households to generate their own electricity, potentially reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
