Government Aiming to Make India Global Hub for Green Hydrogen, Says Nirmala Sitharaman
HSBC India has collaborated with IIT Bombay and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) to meet the technological advancements to make green hydrogen more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government is targeting to make India a global hub for the production, consumption and export of green hydrogen.
Deliberating at the launch of HSBC India's strategic alliances towards facilitating innovation in Green Hydrogen, the minister stated that the government is focused on steering green growth through a range of green reforms.
This initiative will enable a journey towards offsetting carbon intensity in the economy and create green job opportunities.
Sitharaman said, "Green hydrogen has a pivotal role to play as we counter climate change and work towards enabling a low-carbon and self-reliant economy. We're aiming to make India a global hub for production, utilisation and export of green hydrogen.”
HSBC India has collaborated with IIT Bombay and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) to meet the technological advancements to make green hydrogen more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable.
These two collaborations, with the overall grant assistance of INR 15 crores (about USD 2 million), will mainly be innovation projects that will aid in prioritizing green hydrogen as a strategic alternate fuel, assist in developing a robust, green hydrogen economy, and attain the government's vision of an energy-independent nation.
Mark Tucker, Group Chairman of HSBC, said, "We are providing finance to accelerate climate change solutions and building partnerships to drive technological breakthroughs, foster collaboration and support innovation towards enabling a green hydrogen economy."
