Equinor, in collaboration with partner Masdar, has awarded Global Maritime the operational management contract for the major maintenance of the Hywind Scotland floating wind farm.

The contract encompasses Project Management, Engineering, and support in delivering offshore operations for preparatory works, Inter Array Cable, and Mooring disconnection and Lay down, Tow to Wergeland Norway, Assembly site coordination, and return to the site for hook-up.

Hywind Scotland, boasting a 30 MW capacity and situated 25 kilometers off the coast of Peterhead, features five Siemens Gamesa 6 MW turbines. Operational since 2017, the wind farm is now set to undergo groundbreaking maintenance, marking a historic endeavor for a spar floating wind farm.

The maintenance plan involves disconnecting the turbines and towing them to Wergeland port in Gulen, Norway, for servicing, ensuring optimal safety within sheltered conditions. Planning for the operation has already commenced, with execution scheduled to begin later this year. The goal is to have all five turbines back in full operation by the end of summer 2024.

Mats Olsvik, Global Maritime’s COO and Hywind Scotland Project Manager, expressed pride in being entrusted with this crucial scope by Equinor and Masdar. “We are very proud that we have been entrusted with this important scope by Equinor and Masdar. This campaign will offer invaluable experience and insights, contributing to the enhancement of safe and efficient operations in offshore floating wind projects. It puts GM in a solid position to lead in future fully integrated marine operations for offshore wind projects. We are delighted to extend our collaboration with Equinor and are committed to ensuring the success of the project alongside the other contractors,” he said.

The company aims to solidify its position as a leader in fully integrated marine operations for future offshore wind projects.
