GE Energy to Build the First Wind Farm in Vietnam

France-based GE Renewable Energy has announced that it will supply a total of 15 of GE’s 4 MW-137 wind turbines to support the construction of the Cau Dat Wind Farm, the first wind farm in Lâm Đồng Province, in the Central Highland region of Vietnam.

France-based GE Renewable Energy has announced that it will supply a total of 15 of GE’s 4 MW-137 wind turbines to support the construction of the Cau Dat Wind Farm, the first wind farm in Lâm Đồng Province, in the Central Highland region of Vietnam.

The contract has been awarded by Ocean Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company, and it also includes a 10-year full-service O&M agreement for operation and maintenance of the wind farm as well.

Gilan Sabatier, Regional Leader for GE Renewable Energy’s Onshore Wind Business in South Asia and ASEAN, said, "We thank Ocean Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company and their leadership team for selecting GE on this project. The award of the Cau Dat wind farm further validates our commitment to Vietnam and underscores our important contribution to the country’s energy transition.”

The GE 4.0-137 is a 4 MW power output wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 137 meters is an uprate of GE’s 3 MW platform family with the same proven hardware and improved performance of the system providing higher energy production.

The turbines, which will have a hub height of 111.5m, are ideally suited to exploit the wind conditions in the mountainous range of the province.

Commenting on its first partnership, Mr. Do Van Binh, General Director of Ocean Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company said, “This project helps Lâm Đồng province contribute to the renewable energy goal of the country as well as lays the foundation for the expansion of the project in the coming years.”

The construction of the Cau Dat wind farm, which is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2021, would bring tremendous benefits to the provincial economy by generating jobs throughout the initial construction phase and providing continuing work opportunities during the contract period for operations, maintenance and project support services.
