GameChange Solar (GCS) has announced a collaboration with Sabanci Renewables to supply their innovative Genius Tracker™ solar trackers for the Oriana Solar project. The 232 MWdc project, situated on the Texas Gulf Coast in Victoria County, is set to become a contributor to clean, renewable energy in the region.

The Genius Tracker™ technology, known for its WeatherSmart™ backtracking features and dynamic stow modes, aims to enhance energy gains while providing robust protection against severe weather conditions prevalent in the Gulf Coast, including hurricane-force winds, floods, and hail. Wind-tunnel tests, reaching speeds of up to 155 mph with CPP Wind, have demonstrated the system's resilience.

Upon completion, the Genius Tracker technology, paired with nearly 425,000 bifacial panels, is expected to generate power for approximately 34,000 homes, delivering zero-carbon electricity to the ERCOT grid. The project will specifically serve load centres in the Gulf Coast region, impacting areas such as Houston, Corpus Christi, and Freeport.

Bechtel will oversee the design and delivery of the solar project. Notably, the solar power plant will feature a co-located 60 MW/120 MWh battery storage system, a critical element in reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable energy sources.

Max Johnson, Director of Business Development at GCS, expressed honour in supplying the Genius Tracker as a key component in the collaboration between Bechtel and Sabanci. He emphasized the significance of choosing a US-based supplier, reinforcing the commitment to bringing clean renewable energy to the region while supporting the local economy.

Scott Austin, general manager of Bechtel's Renewables and Clean Power business, commented on the project, stating, "We're delighted to expand our work with Sabanci to deliver a third renewable energy project for the people of Texas."

Construction for the Oriana Solar project is slated to commence in early 2024, with completion expected in mid-2025.
