GAIL Greenlights 178 MW Wind Power Project in Maharashtra with INR 1,736 Crore Investment

GAIL (India) Ltd. will invest INR 1,736.25 crore to develop a 178.2 MW greenfield wind power project in Maharashtra, expanding its renewable energy capacity from 145 MW and supporting its target of 3.4 GW by 2035.

GAIL (India) Ltd. has announced that the company will invest about INR 1,736.25 crore to set up a 178.2 MW greenfield wind power project in Maharashtra, as part of its strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and support long-term business growth.
 
The company’s Board of Directors has approved the proposal in a meeting held on February 27, 2026. According to the company’s regulatory filing, the project will be developed with an estimated investment of INR 1,736.25 crore and will be financed through a mix of debt and equity. The capacity addition is targeted for completion within 24 months from the award of the LSTK contract.
 
GAIL currently operates 117.95 MW of renewable energy capacity, which is running at full utilisation, and the proposed wind project is expected to significantly strengthen its clean energy portfolio, the company stated. It also has a solar power capacity of 27 MW, currently operational.
 
GAIL has set a target of achieving Net Zero through reduction in Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions by 2035 and Scope-3 emissions by 2040. GAIL plans to increase its renewable energy capacity up to 3.4 GW by 2035 to achieve the Net Zero targets.
