Foster new industry dynamics towards the new age of low-carbon development, said Gao Jifan, Chairman and General Manager of TrinaSolar, a global supplier of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Jifan provided his insights on the topic ‘What could we do to drive the growth of the PV industry as we transition towards clean and low-carbon energy?’ during his recent opening keynote address at the 2020 China Photovoltaics Industry Annual Conference.

He believes that “to further encourage solar PV applications in the future, we expect more synergies between solar PV development and the policies on land, agriculture and forestry. Meanwhile, by creating more room for solar siting, including C&I and residential rooftops and all kinds of alternative spaces, we hope to provide adequate policies and enough installation space for PV’s development.”

Also, in order to further strengthen industrial innovation - innovation should be the core driving force for all parts of the industrial chain. By promoting the application of high-quality products such as 210mm silicon wafers, high-efficiency cells, high power modules and smart trackers, we foster industrial chain innovation from equipment and materials to products and systems, thus further pushing down solar technology costs, Jifan added.

He also opined that in order to create a new model for solar PV development – towards a future of low-carbon and smart energy, we’d need to uplift the level of digitalisation and intelligence, encourage a new energy model of solar PV coupled with energy storage, and develop a new business model that integrates PV systems and technologies such as IoT and big data.
