ELICA Mediterranean Electrical Interconnection Single-Member S.A. (ELICA) has opened the floor for interested economic operators (tenderers) to participate in the prequalification phase for the award of two contracts vital to the GREGY Green Energy interconnection project.

The contracts in question encompass 'Energy Market Analysis, Technical Analysis, Benefit Indicators Calculation Studies, and Cost Benefit Analysis' as well as a 'Desk Top Study' for the said project.

As the driving force behind the GREGY interconnection project, ELICA aims to bridge the electrical power systems of Egypt and Greece via an HVDC Link boasting a capacity of 3,000 MW. This initiative primarily focuses on facilitating the transmission of 100 percent green energy, a move aligned with the global push towards sustainability.

The project is included in the 1st PCI/PMI list of the European Union. The GREGY Project seeks to interconnect the Electric Power Systems of Egypt and Europe through Greece, facilitating the transfer of clean energy generated from renewable sources in Egypt. This energy, with its high-capacity factors, is earmarked for consumption by the Greek industry, green hydrogen production within the country, and export to other European nations.

The project aligns with the criteria outlined in EU Regulation 347/2013, promising to strengthen the transfer capacity of existing networks between Greece and EU countries by a minimum of 700 MW, thereby enhancing cross-border energy dynamics.

Interested parties must submit their Expression of Interest (EoI) by the deadline of May 31, 2024.
