Electric Vehicles Sales Surpasses 1.2 Crore Units Globally in 2022

The top 10 EV automotive groups, which own over 39 brands of passenger cars, have accounted for almost 72 percent of all EV sales in Q4 2022.

The latest data reveal that the sales of passenger Electric Vehicles (EVs) globally have surged by 53 percent (year-on-year) in Q4 2022, as per a report by a global technology market research firm. This amounts to a total of more than 1.2 crore units of Electric Vehicle for the year 2022-23.

In the same report, it was mentioned that Tesla-owned Model Y has continued to be the best-selling EV model globally. It is followed by China-based BYD’s Song model.

Notably, battery EVs (BEV) have taken up almost 72 percent of all EV sales during Q4 FY22-23. On the other hand, plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs) have taken up the remaining share. In 2022, the top-ranking EV markets were China, Germany, and the US.

Also, the top 10 EV automotive groups, which own over 39 brands of passenger cars, have accounted for almost 72 percent of all EV sales in Q4 2022.

In 2022, many Chinese brands started to expand in markets like Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America. The top 10 EV models accounted for one-third of the total passenger EV sales in Q4 2022.

Analysts and scholars studied about auto vehicle brands are influencing and begin to outreach in markets like Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
