EKA Mobility, has partnered with KPIT Technologies and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to deploy a state-of-the-art 9-meter Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus at Cochin International Airport (CIAL), Kochi.

This first-of-its-kind initiative in Kerala represents a major leap in India’s clean mobility ecosystem, paving the way for the mainstream adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.

The 30+ passenger hydrogen fuel cell bus will be deployed at CIAL as part of a Proof of Concept (PoC) project with a three-year operational life. The bus was displayed at the Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit held in Kochi on March 12 and 13.

As part of this collaboration, EKA Mobility integrated the KPIT hydrogen fuel cell technology in its 9-meter electric bus and BPCL established the hydrogen generation, dispensing, and refuelling infrastructure in Kochi.  By utilising their unique skills, the three organisations are accelerating the country’s adoption of zero-emission, sustainable mobility solutions.

This holistic approach ensures not just a vehicle deployment, but the creation of a complete hydrogen mobility infrastructure, positioning Kerala as a model state for green hydrogen adoption.

Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder & CEO of EKA Mobility, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating: “At EKA Mobility, we are devoted to pioneering clean energy solutions for sustainable urban transportation. The introduction of our hydrogen fuel cell bus in Kochi highlights our commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility. With our strong equity alliances and engagement with BPCL and KPIT, we seek to speed India’s transition to hydrogen-powered public transportation. “

Kishor Patil, CoFoundee, MD and CEO  of KPIT Technologies, said,  “Building sustainable solutions by reimagining mobility is at the heart of KPITs vision. We have been persistently working on Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology and other green solutions. We are pleased to be technology partners in this collaboration with EKA Mobility and BPCL, where, we come together as ecosystem around Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered buses to power net zero ambitions of large infrastructure projects in Kerala”

This project will accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in India, driving investments in green hydrogen infrastructure and shaping policies for wider deployment. By scaling clean energy solutions, it strengthens Kerala’s position in sustainable mobility and advances India’s net-zero goals.
