Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Power recently hosted an awareness session on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient Technologies at St Thomas’ Girls Senior Secondary School, Mandir Marg, New Delhi.

The event – which saw enthusiastic participation from the secondary section of the school – emphasized the importance of energy efficiency practices in daily lives to create a sustainable energy ecosystem.

The session also promoted the participation of women in the energy sector, as both a consumer and a part of the workforce.

The initiative is a part of the Scaling up Demand Side Energy Efficiency Sector Project of EESL, which is supported by the Asian Development Bank.

The interactive session was targeted at educating students on the many benefits associated with integrating conscious energy practices, and how it can be a key enabler in securing a sustainable future for us in the years to come.

Jaspal Singh Aujla, Chief General Manager (CGM, Technical) and Head - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), EESL said, “Energy efficiency refers to optimum utilization of energy without compromising on comfort. Electricity consumption in India touches record high levels every year. To achieve sustainability and energy security in the years to come, it will be important to switch to renewable sources of energy. Facts like ACs work efficiently in closed doors and at temperatures no lower than 25 degrees are known to all, yet not implemented. It is important that the youth acknowledges that as a country, our energy resources are limited, and the time to switch to clean and renewable sources of energy is now or never.”

Harleen Sachdeva, Head HR, EESL said, “Through this session today, we want to inculcate consciousness among students on simple yet effective methods to make their lifestyle cleaner and more sustainable. Switching off the lights and fans when not in use; using energy-efficient LED bulbs, lights, fans, ACs, and refrigerators; transitioning to cleaner modes of transportation like using public transport wherever possible, and switching to electric vehicles - can all make a big difference in reducing our individual carbon footprint. As the world’s largest energy services company (ESCO), it is our responsibility to educate one and all about the immediate and urgent need for adopting an environment-friendly lifestyle.”
