Dubai has commenced the 900 MW fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the greatest single-site solar park in the world with a proposed capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030.

The fifth phase of the project will facilitate clean power to 270,000 residences in Dubai, minimising approximately 1.18 million tonnes of carbon emissions yearly.

The AED2 billion project, executed under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, engages an alliance with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) (60 percent) and a joint venture managed by ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation (40 percent) through Shuaa Energy 3.

The inauguration was led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The fifth phase is one of the first projects in the Middle East to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) consists of an advanced robotic cleaning system for the operation and maintenance of photovoltaic panels.

The overall capacity of the solar energy projects commissioned at the solar park has made 2,427MW from PV solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP).

The remaining capacity of the projects marked as under construction at the solar park is 433MW from CSP.

Dubai has formulated a clear strategy and pathway aligned with the UAE’s vision to attain its targets of producing 25 percent of its power fulfilments from renewable sources by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050.
