Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the development of the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

The project will add between 1.6 GW and 2 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, along with a 1-GW battery energy storage system (BESS) providing six hours of storage. It will be developed on an independent power project (IPP) model.

Interested bidders have until March 21 to submit their proposals. The selected developer will be awarded a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the project. The seventh phase is expected to be commissioned in stages, with operations beginning in August 2027.

With this expansion, the solar park’s total installed capacity is set to surpass 5 GW by 2030. DEWA’s initiative aligns with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Strategy 2050, aiming to make the emirate a global hub for clean energy.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has seen rapid growth, with Masdar signing a deal in 2023 for the 1.8-GW sixth phase. The 900-MW fifth phase was inaugurated in mid-2023, further strengthening Dubai’s renewable energy ambitions.
