The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the Dominican Republic. The delegation, led by Rafael Orlando Gómez Del Giudice, Vice Minister of Energy in the Dominican Republic, aimed to explore DEWA’s sustainability initiatives and clean energy projects.

During the visit, DEWA showcased its role as a global leader in utility services, having set unprecedented benchmarks in the energy and water sectors. According to a study conducted last year by an international consultant, DEWA has achieved top positions globally in more than 10 key performance indicators (KPIs).

“We are committed to sharing our successful experiences and expertise with public and private organisations from various countries and strengthen our cooperation and joint work. This ensures a greener and more sustainable future for all. The increasing global interest in our projects and initiatives reflects the substantial progress we have made in accelerating the energy transition and reaching a green economy. This supports the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100 percent of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

The delegation visited the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The park is set to achieve a production capacity of over 5,000 megawatts by 2030.

They were also briefed on DEWA’s innovative Green Hydrogen Project, which is the first in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar energy.

Further, the Dominican delegation explored DEWA’s Innovation Centre. Dr. Aaesha Alnuaimi, the Centre's Director, guided them through an exhibition that includes over 30 interactive exhibits, showcasing the latest developments in renewable energy. The delegation was also introduced to the DEWA Museum, which provides insight into the history and advancements of the utility sector.

The Dominican delegation expressed high regard for DEWA’s achievements and lauded the Innovation Centre for its role as a global hub for innovation in clean and renewable energy.
