DEWA and Shanghai Electric Partner to Advance Clean Energy Initiatives

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed a high-level delegation from Shanghai Electric.

Led by Wu Lei – Chairman of Shanghai Electric, the delegation convened to explore avenues for collaboration and innovation in the clean energy sector, highlighting the keen interest of international entities in DEWA’s pioneering projects and initiatives.

The meeting, held to promote cooperation and advance clean and renewable energy initiatives, exemplified the commitment of both DEWA and Shanghai Electric to establishing strategic partnerships aimed at driving innovation and development in the clean energy sector.

Al Tayer commenced the meeting by welcoming the visiting delegation, emphasizing the significance of strengthening joint cooperation with Shanghai Electric Group. DEWA's strategic alliances with leading Chinese companies in renewable and clean energy, as well as digital transformation, were highlighted as key in this endeavor.

Constructive discussions between Al Tayer and Wu Lei revolved around exploring avenues of cooperation and sharing experiences in various facets of clean energy generation, distribution, and sustainability. Al Tayer emphasized the imperative of leveraging technological advancements and best practices to address emerging challenges in the global energy landscape, stressing the importance of international collaboration in advancing the transition towards a more sustainable future.

DEWA’s unwavering commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions and its relentless pursuit of excellence in providing reliable and efficient services for citizens, residents, and visitors according to the highest international standards were reaffirmed by Al Tayer.

In response, Wu Lei commended DEWA’s remarkable achievements and its pioneering efforts in the realm of renewable energy and sustainability. He expressed Shanghai Electric's keen interest in identifying areas of fruitful collaboration with DEWA and leveraging shared experiences to drive innovation and contribute to the global energy transition.

A consortium comprising Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, The Silk Road Fund, and China’s Shanghai Electric as the main contractor has built the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The fourth phase of the solar park was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in December 2023 during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) hosted by the UAE in Dubai. 

This project stands as the world’s largest single-site concentrated solar power (CSP) project utilizing the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, combining CSP and photovoltaic solar technologies, with an investment totaling AED 15.78 billion for a capacity of 950 MW.
