Delhi's Finance Minister, Kailash Gahlot has announced that Delhi has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in the realm of electric vehicles (EVs).

The National Capital recorded an impressive 19.5 percent of total vehicle sales in December 2023, marking the highest-ever monthly contribution among all states in India.

Gahlot took to social media platform X and said, " Delhi records a massive 19.5 percent EV sales of the overall vehicles sold in Dec 2023. It is the highest ever among any state in India to date. Overall in 2023, Delhi registered a total of 6,57,312 vehicles out of which 73,610 were Electric."

This significant accomplishment is attributed to the success of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy launched in 2020, which aimed to boost the adoption of EVs and increase their contribution to 25 percent of all new vehicle registrations in Delhi by 2024.

"Under the leadership of CM Arvind Kejriwal, we are committed towards providing cleaner and greener Delhi to all our citizens," the minister added.

The success of the Switch Delhi campaign, launched in February 2021, further emphasizes the city's dedication to creating awareness about the environmental benefits of using EVs and working towards a pollution-free capital.

The December EV sales figures indicate that Delhi is steadily moving closer to its mission of achieving a pollution-free capital, as an increasing number of people are opting for environmentally friendly green vehicles.
