The Delhi Cabinet has approved a three-month extension of its existing Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy. This decision ensures the continuation of the current framework while the government finalises a new EV policy.

In a move providing relief to several sections of society, the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also decided to continue the existing power subsidy scheme. This will benefit domestic consumers, farmers, lawyers with chambers, and victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots who are currently availing themselves of the subsidy.

Addressing a press conference following the Cabinet meeting, Power Minister Ashish Sood put an end to recent speculation regarding the discontinuation of the power subsidy under the new administration. He stated that the Cabinet's decision clearly refutes the 'rumours' being spread by what he termed 'self-proclaimed unemployed political leaders'.

Under the existing power subsidy scheme, a key initiative of the previous AAP government, each household in Delhi receives free electricity for up to 200 units per month. Consumers using between 201 and 400 units are provided with a 50 percent subsidy, capped at INR 800 per month.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh informed the media that discussions for the new EV 2.0 Policy are currently in progress. He clarified that the current EV policy will remain in force until the new version is finalised and implemented. Singh also highlighted the previous government's delays in disbursing existing EV subsidies, which caused difficulties in providing EV-related incentives.

He assured that the current government is committed to resolving these issues and ensuring a more efficient and transparent implementation of future EV policies. Responding to recent rumours circulating about potential restrictions on auto-rickshaws in the city, Minister Singh firmly dismissed them as 'absolutely baseless'. He emphasised that 'No auto-rickshaw will be stopped' and that these rumours have no factual basis. He concluded by reiterating the government's top priority of 'providing quality public transport to the citizens of Delhi'.
