DCNS Engines to Collaborate with Andhra Pradesh of India for industrialisation of OTEC plan.

DCNS Energies to collaborate with state of Andhra Pradesh of India for future industrialization of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plan for Andaman and Nicobar islands.

At the occasion of Aero India Exhibition at Bangalore (India) , DCNS Energies along with DCNS India proposed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) CEO Shri J. Krishna Kishore. The Letter of Intent was proposed in presence of Hon'ble Civil Aviation Minister Shri P. A. Gajapathi Raju during Global CEO Conclave attended by Dr. G. S. Reddy - Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, Shri A. K. Gupta - Secretary Defence Production and other dignitaries from Ministry of Defence and Government of Andhra Pradesh. This LOI is meant to collaborate on the industrialisation of future Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant for Andaman & Nicobar Islands of India and its related systems. In the frame of this agreement, DCNS and APEDB will put together their complementary expertise to implement such a project in India and ensure the industrialisation of the same at Andhra Pradesh in line with Indian Government's policy of 'Make in India'.  

 

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) 

 

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion uses the difference of temperature that naturally exists in tropical waters between the surface water (about 25°C) and deep water (5°C at a depth of 1,000 meters) to create electricity. It is a non-intermittent baseload energy source that could represent medium-term green alternative to so-called "fossil" fuels (gas, diesel, coal), which are still used massively on isolated tropical sites (islands) that have no connection to continental electrical networks. o ignored

 

OTEC for Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India 

 

The islands of Andaman and Nicobar, situated east of mainland India, are well positioned for the development of OTEC with a temperature difference above 20 degrees throughout the year. Such project can completely phase out diesel generator based sources of energies in these islands and pave way for a clean and sustainable future. OTEC plant design, production and maintenance during life span of 25-30 years can produce a large number of job opportunities along with subsequent investments and advances in know-how and technical skills of local industry.
