The Indian unit of French information technology leader Capgemini announced that the company has achieved a milestone in sustainability, with its offices and Data Center operations in Maharashtra now running on 100% renewable energy.

The transition to fully renewable energy helps the company reduce 14,000 tonnes of carbon footprint every year.

The Airoli campus in Mumbai operates on 40% renewable energy from one of its biggest onsite solar plants, and the other 60% through the 'Green Power' utility program. The Pune Talwade and Hinjewadi campuses use 30% renewable energy from the onsite solar plant and the other 70% through the “Green Power” utility program.

“At Capgemini in India, sustainability has always been a key priority and over the years we have taken significant steps in reducing our carbon footprint. Achieving 100% renewable energy across all offices in Maharashtra is a big step towards achieving our Net Zero goal. I would like to congratulate the team for adding another outstanding initiative to our sustainability achievements. Transformations like these are a stepping-stone to help us get the future we want,” said Ashwin Yardi, CEO, Capgemini India.

The company has been at the forefront of the sustainability space with all its offices in Bengaluru and Mumbai’s Vikhroli area, making the shift to 100% renewable energy in 2021 itself. The company now intends to make the transition to renewable energy throughout its offices in the country, and be carbon neutral for its own operations by 2025.

Capgemini’s campus in Airoli spans 50 acres and is able to accommodate more than 30,000 employees in multi-storied buildings.

The two campuses in Pune, namely the Hinjewadi and Talwade campuses, cover 63 acres, housing over 13,000 employees. The campuses have been designed keeping in mind the exemplification of the best practices in sustainability in managing site operations.
