Electricity provider BSES has successfully energized 6,000 rooftop solar installations, and the company has ambitious plans to add over 1,000 more connections in the upcoming 2024-25 financial year.
"We are thrilled to share that in South, West, East, and Central Delhi, BSES has energized a record 6000 roof-top solar installations with a load of nearly 160 MWp. This is a major step towards a greener future and we are proud to be at the forefront of this eco-friendly revolution in The National Capital," BSES said on social media platform X.
The distribution of rooftop solar connections reveals a robust response across various segments, with the highest number of installations in the domestic sector (3,650), followed by commercial (1,087), educational (939), industrial (85), and others (129).
Breaking down the energized load, the commercial segment leads with 57 MWp, followed by the educational segment with 45 MWp, industrial with 6 MWp, and others with 11 MWp.
According to BSES, over 100 residential societies have opted for rooftop solar connections, resulting in substantial annual savings exceeding INR 110 crore for consumers.
BSES emphasized that rooftop solar net metering, by generating 100 to 120 units of electricity per KW every month, offers a cost-effective solution. Consumers stand to recover the system's cost in around four years, and a typical 10 KW rooftop solar connection can save approximately INR 82,000 annually with a monthly consumption of 1,200 units.
Apart from benefiting consumers, BSES sees rooftop solar net metering as a vital step in meeting its renewable purchase obligation (RPO) and addressing overloading issues in congested areas.
