Telangana Power Generation Corporation’s (TGGENCO) auction to set up a 500 MWh (250 MW x 2 hours) standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) has attracted an L1 bid of INR 2.40 lakh/MW/month.
The company awarded a total of 225 MW/450 MWh to Bondada Engineering, Oriana Power and Pace Digitek.
Bondada Engineering has quoted the L1 bid of INR 2.40 lakh/MW/month and has been awarded a capacity of 50 MW/100 MWh.
Oriana Power and Pace Digitek have secured 50 MW/100 MWh and 125 MW/250 MWh, respectively, at a tariff of INR 2.45 lakh/MW/month.
The projects, eligible for viability gap funding and will be developed on a build-own-operate basis.
The tender for this was floated in January 2025. The minimum bid size was 100 MWh i.e. 50 MW x 2 hours.
TGGENCO will sign a 12-year storage purchase agreement, utilising the BESS for two full charge-discharge cycles daily to meet Discoms’ peak and off-peak demands.
Setting up of the BESS and interconnection of the BESS with the State Transmission Network will be under the scope of the BESSD.
The BESSD must install, operate and maintain the BESS to offer facility to TGDISCOMS to charge and discharge the BESS on an 'on demand' basis. The BESSD shall guarantee a minimum system availability of 95 percent on an annual basis.
It is proposed to promote only commercially established and operational technologies to minimise the technology risk and to achieve timely commissioning of the projects.
Recently, the Ministry of Power has instructed all states and implementing agencies to finalise BESS contracts by June 2025 to ensure the VGF program’s completion by May 2027. With declining BESS prices, the program’s targeted capacity has also been increased from 4,000 MWh to 13,200 MWh.
