With the M-module Sovello combines the advantages of unframed and framed solar panels in one product,” says Tino Weiss, the Sovello product developer. With the new multifunction frame the M-module can be installed quickly. There is nearly no visibility of the mounting components in order to emphasize the product design. During the installation the M-modules are combined in order to build an absolutely flat surface. The new middle clip joins the M-modules perfectly which is an optimal solution for roof top plants and ground mounted systems. „For challenging roof-integrated systems the Mmodules are completed by level profiles which maintain an absolutely even surface that is impermeable to water,” Weiss says. Like the former L- and T-series the M-modules have a
self-cleaning effect: because of missing edges rain and melt water can drain unhindered and the module can be washed off dirt more easily. Snow covers vanish more quickly and therefore an output reduction is avoided.

Regarding buildings the photovoltaic industry has especially focused on energy production so far at the expense of design and functionality,“ Weiss says. „With the Mmodule as all-purpose module we are able to implement our solar modules in buildings as components beyond energy production. Furthermore, electricians and architects can integrate the module within the architecture of the building“.

Sovello counts on a future market and offers additional advantages
With the M-module Sovello demonstrates that the company takes part in the beginning differentiation trend of the solar industry which offers modules for different customer needs and solutions. “We have recognized the product needs, especially of PV installers, and realize them in our M-module. We expand our product portfolio for the growing market segment of building-integrated photovoltaics,” says CSO Andreas C. Ehrler. „To develop special modules that offer an additional advantage is a future market“. The additional advantage of building-integrated solar modules is based on the fact thatcomponents of new and existing buildings can be totally replaced, for example tiles, façade covers, or glass surfaces. They can be used as sun, weather or noise protection. “One module for all solutions, for example for winter gardens, shopping arcades, balcony railings and carports“, summarizes Weiss.

Building-integrated solar modules contribute to energy efficiency

The European Union and the German government aim at a nearly carbon-neutral housing stock in 2050. According to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE the building-integrated photovoltaics assumes a key role for this goal. Particularly, a strong increase of energy efficiency of renovated buildings is necessary. The building could achieve more energy efficiency by producing solar energy. Therefore, alongside with the roof the façade will be increasingly used for energy production. „With the M-module for building-integrated solar systems Sovello will contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions of the housing stock. At the same time, we contribute to a long-term architectural acceptance of photovoltaics”, CEO Dr. Beutel stated. Sovello plans the market launch of the M Series in 2013.
