Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar has completely turned to green sources for its energy consumption, by setting up 4MWp Ground Mounted Solar Power Plant in the functional area, making it one of India's 100 percent sustainable airports.

Bhubaneswar airport has established a 4MWp solar power plant in the operational area which contains 10530 PV modules of 380W each.

The solar plant spanned over an area of 13.28 acres with a project worth INR 18.75 crores.

BPIA generates about 60 percent of the airport's electricity needs through its onsite solar generation and the remaining 40 percent from other green sources like hydro energy.

This sustainable initiative by BPIA is part of the airport's steps that minimise its carbon footprint, which drives its journey towards the goal of 'Net Zero' emissions.

BPIA aims to become net-zero, this milestone event further boosts enhancing the airport's operational efficiency and efficacy while operating on entirely renewable energy.

Biju Patnaik International Airport also known as Bhubaneswar Airport. It is located in the city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It is the sole international airport in the state. It is named after the former Chief Minister of Odisha, Biju Patnaik, who was also an aviator and freedom fighter.
