Muzaffarpur, Bihar, is poised to become a significant player in India’s ethanol production industry with the establishment of three new ethanol plants.
These projects, proposed by different companies, are currently under review by the Bihar State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) after being submitted to the state’s Department of Industries.
The plants will focus on producing ethanol from grains, a priority area under Bihar's industrial policy, which emphasises sustainable energy production and agricultural integration.
The proposed sites for the plants include Damodarpur in Motipur, the Motipur industrial area, and Jahura in the Sahebganj block. While the proposals for the Motipur units have already received approval, the Jahura plant awaits clearance in an upcoming SIPB meeting.
Once operational, the plants are expected to create approximately 5,000 jobs, including 3,000 direct positions within the facilities and 2,000 additional roles in transportation and related sectors.
These developments align with the state government’s efforts to promote ethanol production as a key industry by offering subsidies and incentives to attract investments. The initiative also aims to benefit local farmers by providing new markets for their grains, fostering economic growth, and strengthening Bihar’s position as an emerging hub for ethanol production in India.
The establishment of these plants not only underscores Bihar’s commitment to sustainable energy but also promises to invigorate the regional economy by creating employment opportunities and supporting agricultural activities in Muzaffarpur.
